Boating At Mill Creek

Boating is one of the most popular recreational activities at Mill Creek Lake. From sun up to sun down, the lake is open to jet skiing, water skiing, wakeboarding, tubing etc. Daily or annual permits are required to launch any motorized water vessel. in addition to Park District Ordinances, and IDNR regulation and Illinois State Boating Laws apply at Mill Creek Lake. 

 

Boating Regulations:

  1. It is unlawful to operate a watercraft on MIll Creek Lake without purchase of a lake use permit (daily or annual). Paying cabin or campground fee does not allow user to launch a boat without paying this fee.
  2. All watercraft must launch from the boat ramp.
  3. All watercraft must adhere to NO WAKE areas or after sunset anywhere on the lake.
  4. Children under the age of 13 years old must wear a USCG approved life jacket at ALL times.
  5. USCG life jackets are required on anyone swimming near an anchored boat, operating a jet ski, using any towed device including wake boards, skis, tubes, etc.
  6. The speed limit on the lake is 40 mph.
  7. Canoes, kayaks, paddle boats, and any boat with a swimmer, skier or tuber in the water are required to have an orange flag
  8. All operators of watercraft should run in a "Keep to the Right" traffic pattern.
  9. All Boats must provide proof of insurance. Proof of insurance will be requested by the office/Gatehouse and Random checks for proof of insurance will be made by Lake Security.

 

Swimming at Mill Creek

There are no designated swimming/Beach areas at Mill Creek Lake.

All Swimming is at your own risk.

Absolutely NO swimming in boat launch area

Swimming is allowed from watercraft anchored in coves

Watercraft with swimmers or towing water devices must display an orange flag

ALL Swimmers must wear a USCG approved life jacket at all times.

Mill Creek Park is located 7 miles Northwest of Marshall, IL on the Lincoln Heritage Trail Road (Clarksville Road). Mill Creek Park opened May 29, 1982 and consists of 2,600 acres of land, with 811 acres of water. Our Mission is to "manage and preserve the natural resources and provide health and recreational opportunities".
